Lampard could spend the season on loan at City

Twitter

Reallllllly not as big a deal as a lot of people are making this out to be. Yes, a Chelsea legend will be playing for another team. Yes, the other team is a title contender and a direct rival of Chelsea's for this coming year, but let's be real for a second: beyond the two being very good at the same time, there isn't exactly a storied or particularly fierce rivalry between the City and Chelsea. Certainly not as big a deal as if he had gone to United, Arsenal, Spurs, etc.

More importantly- Lampard isn't gonna fucking play for City!! Are you out of your mind? You think a 36 year old Lampard will break into a midfield ahead of Yaya Toure and Fernandinho? Or that they'll play the washed up old man ahead of guys who will actually be at the club for more than a year like Javi Garcia and Fernando? Or maybe you want to play him in an advanced role? Yeah, only has to beat out David Silva. No problem. If this goes through, Lampard will see garbage minutes in a handful of Capital One Cup games, sign a few shirts, then be out the back door before anybody even realized he had been in Manchester.

Who the fuck cares? It's a blimp on the radar of his career. He'll be there for a few months, and in a years time nobody will remember or care that he had played in for another team in England after Chelsea. It'll be weird seeing him in a City jersey for about 5 minutes at his presentation, then it'll just be a matter of how often the camera pans to the bench during games to show him sulking and waiting for his flight to NYC.
