Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has confirmed that Neymar suffered a fractured vertebra during the match with Colombia.
He told Brazil's SportTV: "It's not serious in the sense that it doesn't need surgery, but he'll need to immobilize it to recover.
"Unfortunately, he's not going to be able to play," said Lasmar, adding that he expected the recovery period to take at least a few weeks.
Okay first off, the ref lost control of this game. He gave out something like 4 yellow cards and no red cards the entire game when both teams' game plans were pretty clearly to foul the other team's star players into bolivian. Setting the tone earlier in the game and not pussyfooting around would have allowed for a much more open and entertaining game instead of seeing James and Neymar chopped down every 30 seconds. No way should Zuñiga get away with this, and now the tournament is down one of their star players.
Second, can somebody please explain to me how this isn't worse than what Neymar did? Was is reckless? Yes. Was it intentional? Clearly. And now Neymar is out for 4-6 weeks, missing the rest of the tournament while Chiellini was hurt for all of 30 seconds. And this wasn't even a foul! Zuñiga is going to get away scott-free for intentionally injuring a player and taking him out of the biggest tournament in the world while Suarez get's a four month ban just because he thought another player was a bowl of lucky charms? Bullllllshitttttt. If Suarez gets a four month ban for what he did, Zuñiga should at the very least be drawn and quartered, then put on display at the four corners of Brazil, William Wallace style #Justice4Zuñiga
