Klinsmann "very optimistic" when asked of Jozy's chances of playing against Belgium
Great for Altidore, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, no way would it be the right idea for Klinsmann to try to start Altidore on Tuesday. Not only would that be borderline reckless with a hamstring that looked torn in half less than two weeks ago, but the US has played their best soccer without Altidore this World Cup. The US proved they could play great without him when they took Portugal to task for 85 minutes and dominated them in almost every facet of the game. Though they were largely dominated by Germany, the US proved they could stay organized and more than compete with a Belgian team that has yet to truly impress.
If Klinsmann is serious about this tournament, keep Altidore on the bench against Belgium, at least from the start. If you need a boost or a goal late in the game, bring him in in the 60 or 70th minute. Better to do all you can to give him those extra few days of rest just in case you find yourself playing Argentina a few days later.
