Ander Herrera to sign for Manchester United

Manchester United Official Website

Manchester United is delighted to announce that, after triggering the buy-out clause in his contract on Tuesday, it has signed Spanish central midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Club in Bilbao, pending the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate. He joins on a four-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.

Hey, would you look at that? A center midfielder for Manchester United who isn't named Cleverly, Carrick, or Fletcher. So crazy it just might work.

Obviously this is great news for any United fans as Ander Herrera is a clear step-up from anything they currently have, but I'm honestly not as sold on him as many are. He's very good, but Bilbao are notorious for not selling a penny below the price in their buyout clause, so United are gonna be paying top dollar for him. Based on this past season I'd say Ander Iturraspe would be a better fit, but any signings in the center of midfield are good signings at this point. He's young, technical, and helped lead an Athletic Bilbao team into the Champions League. Chalk this up as a good signing for the Red Devils.
