Apparently DeAndre Yedlin might be on his on his way to Roma

Today, Italian sport daily Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that a deal for Yedlin has been completed. The race was between Italian sides Genoa and Roma, but the capital club have won out. It’s said that the terms of the agreement allow the 20-year-old to remain with the Seattle Sounders for another year, completing this season and not joining up with Roma until summer 2015.

Cool news for him, but it's hard to believe this is really the right move for him at this point in his career. Sure, its great to be in Europe and the allure of playing for a Champions League team is huge, but Yedlin needs playing time at this point in his career. Sure, he's athletic and fast as fuck, but he's still a raw player. If he goes to Roma then doesn't play for 3 years he'll be wasting key years of possible development and will be no more than just a promising prospect.

Could it work out well? Yeah, maybe, but I think the smart thing to do would be to let him develop in Seattle for 2 or 3 more years before trying to make the jump to Europe. He's just not ready yet.
