World Cup Wrap Up - June 29

Netherlands 2 - 1 Mexico

Second day of the knockout round, let's jump right in.

Giovani fucking smashed in a volley from well outside the area in the 48th minute to put Mexico ahead 1-0. It was a deserved lead for the Mexicans, who had dominated the first half of the game.

Guillermo Ochoa later made a ridiculous save to keep Mexico up 1-0 in the 57th minute, however Ochoa's heroics weren't enough for Mexico as they conceded two late goals, one of which was a pile-driver resulting from a corner that Mexico failed to deal with.

One debatable penalty later, deep into stoppage time, was enough to end Mexico's World Cup. Two daggers in the last ten minutes of the game to deny their first World Cup quarter finals in 30 years? Brutal.

Costa Rica 1(5) - 1(3) Greece

Bryan Ruiz mishit his way into the hearts and pants of every woman in Costa Rica with his well placed shot from outside the box early in the first half. Whether you think it was intentional or not, Costa Rica will be like an all you can fuck buffet for Bryan Ruiz for the rest of his life regardless.

Greece tied it up during a scrum in the box, deep into extra time (like there hasn't been enough overtime dramatics this World Cup.) In overtime, Greece, who were playing a man up since about the 60th minute of the game, were unable to score and against all odds somehow managed to fuck up a 5 on 2 opportunity deep into the bonus half hour.

It's all good though, Samaras thought it was fucking hilarious.

After 30 minutes of scoreless overtime the game went to penalties, where Keylor Navas showed why he's rated so highly in La Liga with this fucking ridiculous save on former teammate and Greek legend Theofanis Gekas.

This game may have not been the most exciting of the World Cup so far, but if you can't appreciate the drama involved in a game between two teams who have never made it this far in any previous World Cup, where entire countries hinge on the result, and one had to play a man down for half the game, then theres something wrong with you. These penalties were edge of your seat stuff, and you can bet your ass the Costa Rica fans will be going ballistic when they face off against the Oranje in the quarter finals. On to the next games!
